Most jobseekers do not realise that 99% of CV design is completed by phone and email. You do not actually have to meet the CV expert. In fact I will only meet clients for Career Assessment, Career Coaching or Interview Coaching. I find that meeting with individuals only adds time to the process – and time adds to the cost. I work with clients all over the country including Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford.
I design CV’s for all levels of the organisation and all business functions. I design CV’s for Executives, Professional and Graduates. I have designed CV’s for sales, IT, production, engineering, materials, finance and management.
What does my CV look like?
I have worked in careers, HR and recruitment for 14 years. I have seen everything when it comes to CV’s and CV design – the good, the bad and the ugly. I am a career doctor with The Irish Independent and The Sunday Tribune and regularly write CV articles for a number of online sites including RecruitIreland. If you need an impact CV whay not check out my profile or read what other individuals had to say about my work.
Need more information?
I would be more than happy to provide more information about my CV service or my other services career coaching, career assessment and interview coaching. Feel free to contact me or visit my website for more information.

One of the popular questions I am asked by clients is “where are you based?” I guess most of them do not realise that 99% of CV design is completed without any face to face contact between career expert and the client as the process is completed by phone and email. I never recommend meeting as I find this adds unnecessary time to the process. It would be different for career coaching or interview coaching where 99% of this I complete face to face.
Important questions to ask a CV expert
Experience – Very few clients ask me about my experience and knowledge. OK this is outlined in my profile and many clients see my career advice in the Irish Independent, Sunday Tribune and websites like RecruitIreland. Having said this I think it is still important to ask the question.
Track Record – A few references would be nice.
Approach to CV design – Get the career expert to discuss their views on CV’s to get a feel for their knowledge and approach. There are many “grey men in grey suits” designing CV’s from standard templates with little impact.
Price – It is important to shop around but like any other service the lowest is not always the best

The number one reason why 90% of CV’s fail is because the focus is all wrong. Most jobseekers write CV’s without considering the employer. When it comes to CV design jobseekers are concerned about what they want and explaining this experience in great detail without any thought to the employer and what they require.
When developing the CV jobseekers must think like a marketing professional and design their marketing material (the CV) with the audience in mind. Jobseekers must understand the needs of the employer which can be accessed through job specifications, company website or asking the employer directly. It is then essential to communicate how they can resolve these needs through their CV.
The next major problem with most CV’s is the layout. A CV has 30 seconds to make an impact. If a potential employer cannot see how a jobseeker can solve their problems within a short space of time they risk missing out on interview.
Effective CV layout means that all key information can be easily accessed by the reader in the first page of the document. Many jobseekers have relevant work experience, qualifications and skills hidden at the end of their CV. Remember hiring managers may not take the time to read a CV from start to finish.

Jobseekers lying on their CV in increasing with increased competition in the job market. Surveys have indicated that most hiring managers expect CV’s to contain lies of some form BUT this does not mean that they will accept lies if the uncover them. The answer is that they will not. Think again if you intend to falsify information on your CV as employers expect lies and they know where to look for them.
Education & Training – It is accepted that many jobseekers falsify education, training courses, grades and qualifications. It is generally accepted that employers will not check up on this information but you cannot be sure.
Gaps in the CV – This is now easier to get away with because jobseeker now make many more career changes during their career but it can be uncovered during reference checking.
Bumped up salary & benefits – Most jobseekers want to improve salary during a job move and will bump up their salary, commission and bonuses in a bid to get a greater increase. Salary lies are difficult to detect as most potential employers never speak to current employers for obvious reasons.
Enhance job duties – Basically this is the receptionist running the company scenario. A trained interviewer will normally pick this up at interview.
Jobseekers who lie on their CV rarely consider the consequences of these lies. They can get caught out and miss out on a great role, get caught out after they commence employment and get fired or land a job well above their ability and struggle badly. Generally speaking lies do not pay!!
For help to develop you CV contact us. We will help you design a CV that will make an impact without the need to tell lies. We help jobseekers sell themselves with our expert knowledge of CV’s and the recruitment and selection process in Ireland. Read what other jobseekers said about our CV service.

I ran a CV & Interview Workshop on 29th September in Dublin city centre and all who attended told me they found it very useful and worthwhile (or maybe they didn’t want to hurt my feelings). The workshop lasted 4 hours and covered CV, Interview and Recruitment Strategy. Some of the written comments included;
“The workshop has helped me to layout my CV properly and identify what is relevant for the employer”
“Very good advice. I have a lot of areas in my CV and at interview I can improve. The course was a great help”
“Very helpful. I am starting to explore the job market after an absence of several years and I feel that I now know where to start”
“Yes Paul was excellent, approachable and very friendly”
I am running another workshop on 20th October. If you want more information get in touch via my website www.measurability.ie or email me on paul@measurability.ie

I spent last Friday sending out canvass emails to attract new clients. Although I used the spell check on my email I did not proof read before hitting send. The result was that I used the words “HR professional” in the email when it should have read “HR professionals”. Shortly after sending my email I received a reply complaining about my grammar and spelling.
The reply read as follows; Hi Paul, I cannot say that you impressed me with this mail. Your spelling leaves a lot to be desired. Sorry for any offense but if you’re selling a service in your mail should be perfect.
I must say I did have a smile when I read this reply and I thought it was nice that Mr Kettle finally made contact with Mr Pot. For the observant you will notice the American spelling “offense” and that the final sentence does not make much sense. I suppose there are a few points to make.
First point is that it is likely that you will find spelling and grammar mistakes in my blog. Please point them out but make sure to do this with proper spelling and grammar.
CV Writing – Spelling & Grammar mistakes.
A more important point is that I lost a potential customer through my error even though I did try a charm offensive. As with job hunting poor grammar and spelling can cost potential interviews. I have viewed many CV’s in my time with poor spelling and grammar. It is essential to get this right before sending your CV to a potential employer or even an agency.
I agree that there are hiring managers out there who will accept basic mistakes (after all most accept basic lies on CV’s). This aside you should not leave it to chance. I recently worked with a client who was rejected for an internal promotion because of a spelling error on his CV. By all means use the available spell checker on word but bear in mind that this may not pick up all of the potential mistakes. I recommend that you proof read your CV and that you get a third party to proof read it.
If you have poor spelling and grammar then get a friend or family member to assist with writing your CV. Alternatively you can seek professional help or a professional CV service. It is important to develop a client focused CV with optimum layout and format. This effort can be vain if a simple mistake costs you the intervew. Remember you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.
